It’s easy to get caught in a mind set that small business often takes the shape of manufacturing, retail, professional services and the like, but so is farming and ag-based business!
The inspiring use of social media is all around us, including on the farm. The people who go into agriculture have a passion for what they do, and small business is obviously a huge part of that. I strongly admire the savvy business skills and creative use of social media by those in the ag field that I come across everyday.
Some of the best social media people I encounter on blogs, Twitter, and YouTube are in the ag industry. Log onto Twitter using the hashtag #agchat to follow some of the most lively, current, and informative conversations on Twitter.
I’d like to share a Remark!able example of how one farm in Elko, MN is using a blend of a blog, website, YouTube, and Twitter to market their business online and connect with the people who support and consume their products. I’ve been admiring the personable, consistent presence of ZWeber Farms online for quite sometime. Emily (@EZWeber) is on Twitter and the blog always offers great recipes and insight into what’s happening on the farm. They use video to tell the stories of how they do things on the farm, and always make a point to connect with both consumers and other bloggers.
For example, is there such a thing as good insects? How about safety tips for snowmobilers riding through farm land? Zweber Farms does a great job blogging about topics that peek your interest.
