RiverSong Festival Chair RiverSong – Coming July 13-19, 2009!
Have you heard the buzz about a music festival starting in Hutchinson this summer? If you haven’t, Vivid Image has kindly allowed me this opportunity to fill you in on this exciting upcoming event. RiverSong, a Celebration of Grassroots Music, is coming to Hutchinson the week of July 13-19, 2009.
The goal of RiverSong is to utilize and highlight the abundant music, art, history, and natural assets of the Hutchinson area and surrounding region to provide a distinct musical and artistic experience to community members and visitors of all ages and demographics. This festival will assist in expanding local art initiatives by showcasing local and regional musical talent, offering educational artistic opportunities for all ages, and demonstrating the skill and knowledge of a diverse group of talented artists.
The festival will begin with the long standing Music in the Park concert on Monday evening (July 13), with various smaller music performances during the week. On Thursday, July 16, we will stage a Big Coffee House (a “Hutch Idol” of sorts) to allow local artists to perform and compete for the opening act slot of the Saturday evening performances. Friday will focus on music and storytelling, while Saturday will be a full day of activities: music performances, arts & crafts booths, food & beverages, workshops, and even a few jamming sessions. The festival will come to a close on Sunday with an outdoor musical service by the Crow River. Most of the festival activities will be taking place at the scenic West River Park, just along the Crow River and Luce Line Trail.
Currently, there are over 50 people in the Hutchinson area that are actively involved as volunteers in the planning committees for this festival. The committees are busy pursuing funding for the festival, arranging the line up of artists and musicians, coordinating with the police and city departments, arranging marketing materials, and preparing superior hospitality for festival guests (visitors and artists).
If you are interested in helping with the festival, we are still in great need of financial and volunteer assistance. You can contact Megan Peterson at email@example.com to get more information. Tickets for the festival are not yet available, but make sure to visit our festival website at www.riversongfestival.org for more information. While on the site, make sure to sign up for email updates that will provide information on tickets, artists, festival site information, and much more!
Thanks for letting me share this information with you. We’ll see you this summer!
