With visions of people hunched over computer screens, you may be wondering how fitness and social media belong in the same headline.
BLEND, a local Central Minnesota initiative in St. Cloud, MN has a goal of reducing childhood obesity rates, and is using social media to reach young people and families. Through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, eNewsletters and their blog, BLEND shares nutrition and fitness news that benefits the whole family.
When Waite Park, MN announced the opening if their new (and might I add, FREE) fitness park, BLEND shared the news through their online channels. To help spread the word, BLEND blogged about the exciting news and shared a creative YouTube video made by Rejuv Medical explaining how to use the new outdoor gym, cleverly equipped with all kinds of fitness stations throughout the trail. It’s an informative and valuable tool to help people get the most out of the park and equipment, and a fantastic example of using video and YouTube to reach people.
I’ve never heard of such a cool idea for a community park, but after reading BLEND’s blog post and watching this video I’m determined to make a trip with the kids to see for myself! If you’re interested in taking a trip to Waite Park, MN to check it out, it’s called The Harold P. Nelson Healthy Living Trail. It’s located on 3rd Street North in Waite Park, MN and is available to everyone, at any time, for FREE!
