An important aspect of any Search Engine Optimization campaign, the Title Tag is an essential and oftentimes underutilized element. Title Tags are not only important for Search Engines; they are a crucial aspect for your audience as well. As one of the first things a visitor sees when viewing the results from a search, each Title Tag should provide a page-specific description that is bound to capture the visitor’s attention.
Title Tags should be unique to every page and NEVER replicated throughout the site. When constructing a catchy and correctly optimized Title Tag you will want to make sure that it contains keyword phrases that the specific page is being optimized for. If possible the Title Tag should always include the single most important phrase you are hoping to capture traffic for.
If your company name is included in the Title Tag, it should come after the keyword phrases. Visitors will more often be searching for a product or service you offer rather then your company name. One exception to this would be if you carry a well known brand, in which case you could consider listing that first followed by your keyword phrases.
Lastly, keep your Title Tags short. While there is no “set-in-stone” rule to proper length, you should keep your Title Tags between 60-70 characters including spaces. Think creatively, use your keyword phrases, and get busy writing those Title Tags!
