Calls To Action are critical to help your business reach goals and measure the effectiveness of your online presence.  It’s important that you choose clear CTA’s and place them strategically within your site.   Calls to Action help create a sense of urgency, and guide the user to take a specific next step resulting in a conversion that meets or exceeds the goals you have for your business or organization!

How do You Choose What You Want Them to Do?

Simple!  Do you want more donations?  More subscribers to your newsletters?  More online orders? More volunteers or members? More leads into your sales team?  What do you want your prospects or existing customers to do when you have their attention online? Here’s a brainstorm list of possible actions:

5 Tips to Consider

  1. Create a Sense of Urgency – Using the terms “Now” or “Today” are obvious terms to include, and you may also want to consider offering something of value when they act right away.
  2. Position Carefully – It is ideal to include CTA’s front and center on your site or if you are sending an email with a CTA, be sure to test your message on a mobile device before you send!
  3. Be Specific – Tell them EXACTLY what you want them to do, when, and how you want them to do it.
  4. Include a Number – Did 5 tips catch your attention?  What about Get ONE free?  Using numbers is a proven powerful marketing tactic (Use them in subject lines and headlines too!).
  5. Ensure Clickability (to the Right Place!) – Most CTA’s are designed with graphical elements so make sure when you click on them the link not only works, but it is directing them exactly where you want them to go to take action.  To reiterate, that includes testing your links on mobile devices too.

Calls to Action are also important to include because they are one way you can measure numbers of users viewing and clicking through to take the action, such as filling out a contact form, donating online, calling a unique phone number.  You can clearly tell what they care about.
