I come across Remark!able examples of social media use all the time that cause me to pause and take notice. I tend to make a mental note, and as time goes on, I benefit from being aware of these brands. In many cases I form relationships, try their products, and pass along information to those I know are interested. That’s the point of social networking, right?
Each Monday, I plan to blog about examples of Remark!able brands, companies, non-profits, and people who use social media tools in a noticeably effective way. I hope that by sharing examples, you will be inspired with new ideas. When you see an example, I hope you’ll come back here and share it with me and the rest of our readers so that we can continue to grow a community of people in Minnesota and beyond who value shining a light on those who are being Remark!able.
Carlos Creek Winery
What wine pairs well with Tator Tot Hot Dish? Hot Dish Red, of course!
Carlos Creek Winery is a small business located in Alexandria, MN, and they are Remark!able in Wine and Spirit. I first came across this company on Facebook when I saw a friend of mine had become a fan. An avid wine drinker, I noticed right away that people I knew were taking a virtual trip over to the page. I couldn’t wait to check it out.
When I got to the page, the conversations were lively. I found lots of updates on the page, and it was clear that it was a fun place to be. Fans interact frequently. The crew at Carlos Creek Winery post frequent “trivia” questions that are fun to read and respond. The winner gets a free bottle of wine. How cool is that?
One of the most Remark!able examples of customer innovation (from the book: Outside Innovation) I’ve seen is when they opened up the task of naming their wine to their fans. Not only was this engaging, but it was entertaining as well. I laughed out loud many times, and each submission would get more clever than the last. According to their newsletter, they received over 500 submissions!
Most importantly, this use of social media and fan “input” helped insured “ownership” in their product, and of course, it created buzz. I couldn’t wait to taste a wine named after my Minnesota native terms, “Hot Dish” and “Ya Betcha Blush”!
If someone asks me what wine goes with hot dish, I am certain I’ll remember the name of this wine.
