Have you heard about Google My Business and Google+, but aren’t sure what they are or how they are different? You are not alone. This is a frequent question. Common enough that Google recently created a support document explaining what each platform is used for, and how they are different.
Overall, Google My Business is a tool that allows you to manage your online presence on Google Search and Google Maps. Google+ is a social platform that allows you to share and engage with other people and businesses. I could go into more detail, but Google has already created a great explanation. They also included common questions and answers. Check out what they have to say.Read Google’s Support Document
Ongoing Google Changes
Google changes these tools regularly, so if you used one of them a couple months ago they may look and function different today. Sometimes people think that Google My Business and Google+ are the same thing, but they are not. In the past they were very intertwined. If you created one account you basically received the services of both Google My Business and a Google+ page was created automatically. That is no longer the case.
Google has separated the two tools and spends a lot of time enhancing Google My Business lately, while Google+ has received much less attention. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for each of these platforms.
