If you’re using the Remarketing feature with Google Analytics, it’s time to review your Privacy Policy. Starting May 15, 2017, the Google Analytics Remarketing feature was updated to perform cross-device remarketing to build audience lists. This means that a signed-in user that accesses your site on a mobile phone can be retargeted on another device they’re signed in on, such as a tablet or desktop computer.
If this Remarketing feature is enabled on your site it is required that your website’s privacy policy notifies the user of any Google Analytics Advertising features being used, how you and third-parties use first-part cookies, & how users can choose to opt-out of this feature. Your privacy policy must meet Google’s requirements if you are using any Google Analytics Advertising features.
What your Privacy Policy Should Cover (at a minimum)
- Indicate the Google Analytics Advertising Features that are being used on your site.
- Explain how you and third-party vendors use first-party cookies or other first-party identifiers, and third-party cookies or other third-party identifiers together.
- Indicate how a user can opt-out of the Google Analytics Advertising Features, including through Ads Settings, Mobile App Ad Settings, or any other opt-out options.
It is also encouraged that you provide your site’s users with the currently available opt-outs for Google Analytics, so they have easy access to opt-out options.
Please let us know if you have questions about Privacy Policies, Google Analytics, Retargeting or any of this may affect you. We’re happy to help!
